Regional Sales and Service Representative
Starr is a senior Business Administration major at Cameron University in Lawton. She is half Ho-Chunk and half Ojibwe, but is an enrolled member of the Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin. She also is an active member of the Native American Church and the Powwow arena. She has a vast understanding of other tribes’ customs and traditions due to her family’s extensive traveling.
She previously served a Tribal Government for 12 years as a Human Resources Director/Benefits Coordinator. Among her many responsibilities at the nation were: payroll, recruitment & staffing, grievance procedures, appeal hearings, employee relations, policy development & documentation, records management and compliance with federal & state labor laws. She is also adept in Paycom & ADP software.
Having worked as Benefits Coordinator, Starr understands benefit plans from a tribal employer’s perspective and the needs of their employees. She developed an open communication policy with all staff to ensure benefits were managed properly. She was responsible for coordinating annual and monthly benefits enrollments, maintained separate health insurance files for each employee, had employer access to all medical/dental/vision/life insurance vendors to update as necessary.
Also, she completed insurance vendor payments, bi-weekly billing for supplemental insurance, was the liaison between employees and insurance companies for claims and issue resolution and administered COBRA, leave of absence and FMLA.
